AUTh organized an anniversary concert celebrating the 100 years since its founding, choosing at the same time to honor Mikis Theodorakis, whose centenary is also marked this year. The “March of the Spirit” on poetry by Angelos Sikelianos was selected, along with three well‑known excerpts from “Axion Esti” set to the poetry of Odysseas Elytis. The President of the School of Music Studies, Mr. Georgios Sakallieros, offered a brief historical and musicological introduction to Theodorakis’ work. The choir was accompanied by the AUTh Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimiros Symeonidis, while the solo parts were performed by Mela Gerofoti and Apostolos Sotiroudis. The concert was attended by a large audience, among them His Eminence, the Archbishop of Thessaloniki, Philotheos.
